Rather, Dan (Irvin) (1931–  ) television anchorman; born in Wharton, Texas. After reporting for local television in Houston, he joined CBS's Dallas bureau in 1962. He served as CBS White House correspondent (1964–65, 66–74), covering Watergate with special reports like The White House Tapes: The President's Decision. One of the initial correspondents on 60 Minutes (1975–81), he was a tenacious interviewer, becoming CBS Evening News anchor in 1981, also anchoring 48 Hours (1988).
