Raudsepp, Khugo

(in Estonian, Hugo Raudsepp; pen name Milli Mallikas). Born June 28, (July 10), 1883, in Vai-mastvere, now in Jõgeva Raion; died Sept. 16, 1952. Soviet Estonian writer.

Raudsepp was a journalist from 1907 to 1924. He wrote the comedies Mikumärdi (1929) and Lazybones (1932), which dealt with village life. The comedies The American Christ (1926), The Blessing of Concussed Brains (1931), and The Man with Trumps in His Hands (1938) ridiculed bourgeois intrigue, lower middle class mores, and snobbery. Raudsepp also published topical satires, several collections of short stories and essays, and the satirical novel The Last European (1941). After the war, he wrote the comedy Rats (1946) and other works.
