Ravine Gardens State Park


Location:At 1600 Twigg Street in Palatka.
Facilities:Gardens, picnic areas, playground, trails, interpretive exhibits, restrooms (é), civic center complex with covered pavilion, auditorium, and meeting rooms.
Activities:Hiking, bicycling, picnicking, wildlife viewing.
Special Features:Ravine Gardens was created in the 1930s by the federal Works Project Administration, which planted the ravines with more than 95,000 azaleas (64 varieties), 11,000 palm trees, and 250,000 ornamental plants. Much of the WPA's original landscaping still exists as the park's formal gardens and extensive trail system. The peak flowering period is azalea season, late January to April.
