Rawlings, Marjorie (b. Kinnan) (1896–1953) writer; born in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin: Madison (1918), worked as a publicist in New York (1918–19), wrote verses for United Features syndicate (1926–28), and settled in Florida (1928), first in Cross Creek and later in St. Augustine (1941). Her first novel for young readers, The Yearling (1938), won the Pulitzer Prize (1939), and continues to be praised by readers of all ages. How to thank TFD for its existence?
