Razin, Evgenii Andreevich 

(until 1924, E. A. Nekle-paev). Born Oct. 13 (25), 1898, in the village of Pakinichi, Ros-lavl’ District, Smolensk Province; died Apr. 6, 1964, in Moscow. Soviet military historian; major general (1949), professor (1940). Member of the CPSU from 1917.

Razin fought in the Civil War of 1918–20 as a battalion commander and commissar of a rifle regiment. A graduate of the Military Academy of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in 1924, he taught at military schools from October 1929 and at various military academies from 1936. He headed a subdepart-ment of the history of the art of war from 1936 to 1942 and 1945 to 1957. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), Razin worked in the military history section of the General Staff and in departments for the utilization of the war experience of the staffs of the Second Byelorussian Front and of the Fourth Guards Tank Army. He retired in March 1957.

Razin was the author of the three-volume work History of the Art of War (1955–61), which covers the period from antiquity through the 17th century. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
