Reşiţa (rĕ`shētsä), Hung. Resiczabánya, city (1990 pop. 110,519), W Romania, in the Banat, in the western foothills of the Transylvanian Alps. It is a railroad terminus and a leading Romanian mining and industrial center. The production of iron and steel, engines, and metal goods are the leading industries. Coal and manganese are mined nearby. Reşiţa was known in Roman times as a mining center for precious metals. The modern city was founded in 1768, when the first foundry was established.
Reşiţa 

a city in southwestern Rumania, capital of the judeƫ (district) of Caraş-Severin. Population, 71,500 (1973). Reşiƫa is a transportation junction. Its largest enterprise is the Reşiƫa Metallurgical Combine. The city produces heavy machinery used in electric power generation, metallurgy, metalworking, and the petroleum industry. Building materials are manufactured. Reşiƫa also has chemical and food-processing industries.
