In central TX, west of San Angelo; organized Mar 7, 1903 from Tom Green County. Name Origin: For Col. John Henninger Reagan (1818-1905), postmaster general and acting secretary of the treasury of the Confederacy (1861-64), U.S. representative from TX (1875-87), and U.S. senator from TX (1887-91).

Area (sq mi): 1175.98 (land 1175.30; water 0.68). Pop per sq mi: 2.50.
Pop 2005: 2,995. State rank: 228. Pop change: 2000-20005 -10.00%; 1990-2000 -26.30%. Pop 2000: 3,326 (White 46.50%; Black or African American 3.00%; Hispanic or Latino 49.50%; Asian 0.30%; Other 32.10%). Foreign born: 16.40%. Median age: 32.40.
Income 2000: per capita $13,174; median household $33,231; Pop below poverty level: 11.80%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $16,599-$19,928.
