Recording Geophone

    0.01 sec.
Recording Geophone

a geophone equipped with a special attachment for registering sounds in mining operations that are difficult to detect. It is utilized to determine the location of mine workers caught in mine shafts and pits through an accident by listening for (and simultaneously recording on magnetic tape) signals transmitted by impacts on the rock with a solid object. A recording geophone can distinguish man-made signals from extraneous sounds at distances up to 100 m.
