Red River State Recreation Area Location: On the Red River in the city of East Grand Forks, 1 mile south of Highway 2. Facilities: 72 drive-in campsites (48 with full hookups), flush toilets (é), picnic area, picnic shelter (é), boat launch, paved multi-use trails, wheelchair accessible trail (2 miles), historic site, nature store, dining and shopping nearby. Activities: Camping, river fishing, boating, birding, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling. Special Features: Creation of this recreation area resulted from the 1997 flood that devastated the communities of East Grand Forks, MN and Grand Forks, ND. The land is now a 1,200-acre greenway set in an urban area.
