Location: 1.5 miles east of I-75 exit 285, near Cartersville (about 45 minutes north of Atlanta).
Facilities: 92 tent/trailer/RV campsites, pioneer campground, 18 cottages, a yurt, 33-room lodge and conference center, restaurant, swimming pool (lodge and cottage guests only), lake, swimming beach, tennis courts, 7 picnic shelters, 2 group shelters, wooded trails (15.5 miles), paved trail (é), marina, 2 boat ramps, 2 docks, meeting facilities, miniature golf course.
Activities: Camping, boating, water skiiing, fishing, swimming, hiking, interpretive programs.
Special Features: Once an important mining area for iron, the park is named for the rich red earth color of the soil caused by its high iron-ore content. The park is surrounded by Lake Allatoona, a 12,000-acre reservoir on the Etowah River, and includes a reconstructed 1860s log cabin (open and staffed on Saturdays).
