Rediger, Aleksandr Fedorovich 

Born Dec. 31, 1853 (Jan. 12, 1854); died 1918 in present-day Pereiaslav-Khmel’nitskii. Russian military figure, general of the infantry (1907).

Rediger graduated from the Corps of Pages in 1872 and from the Academy of the General Staff in 1876. He fought in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78. He held staff positions, and from 1880 he also taught military administration at the Academy of the General Staff. In 1882–83, Rediger served in the Bulgarian Army as deputy minister of war and manager of the Bulgarian Ministry of War. He served in the chancellery of the Ministry of War from 1884 to 1905, becoming head of the chancellery in 1898. He became a member of the State Council in 1905. He was Russian minister of war from June 1905 to March 1909. Rediger drew up a plan for the military reforms of 1905–12 and initiated their implementation.
