(electromagnetism)
A switch that has contacts mounted on ferromagnetic reeds sealed in a glass tube, designed for actuation by an external magnetic field. Also known as magnetic reed switch.

Most grippers incorporate either a reed switch or Hall-effect sensor to detect open, closed, or half-open positions.
