Rehan, Ada (rē`ən), 1860–1916, American actress, b. Ireland. Her original name was Crehan. Rehan came to the United States when she was five. From 1879 to 1899 she was a member of Augustin Daly's company and for a large part of this time was costarred with John Drew. Excelling in Daly's adaptations of German and French society comedies and in Shakespearean comedies, she won special acclaim in The Taming of the Shrew. Rehan, Ada (b. Crehan) (1860–1916) actress; born in Limerick, Ireland. A great beauty and especially suited to comic roles, she came to the U.S.A. as a child. She debuted at age 14 in Mrs. John Drew's stock company in Philadelphia. An early program misprint caused her to change her name to Rehan. She gained popularity in both New York and London, appearing to greatest acclaim in the role of Katherina in The Taming of the Shrew. How to thank TFD for its existence?
