Rajang Riveror Rejang RiverChief river, central Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. It flows southwest and west into the South China Sea and is about 350 mi (565 km) long. It is navigable for about 80 mi (130 km) to Sibu by oceangoing vessels and has a wide, swampy delta. Several market towns are along its banks. How to thank TFD for its existence? | On the Rejang River, the Iban language is used in Catholic church services in Kejaman-speaking villages (Collins 2001a). Leech also identified three main areas where anti-Japanese uprisings could be launched: the Baram and Tinjar rivers, inhabited by the Kayans and Kenyahs; the Rejang basin above Kapit, peopled mostly by Ibans; and the Iban heartland of the Second Division (13) (the Rejang River eastwards to the Sadong River). Chapters Five, Six, and Seven provide detailed analysis of the challenges Brooke faced from internal Malay struggles for power and influence in Sarawak, and in the Rejang River Basin as his power expanded there. |
