The Nazis were pleased to have a leading philosopher among their ranks and he was appointed to the position of Rektor at Freiburg University, where he behaved atrociously: abolishing the faculty senate, instituting a Fuhrer system of governance, firing Jewish faculty members, helping to align the university system with the Nazi regime, and lending intellectual respectability to a band of thugs. |
