basal metabolic rate [′bā·səl med·ə′bäl·ik ′rāt]
(physiology)
The amount of energy utilized per unit time under conditions of basal metabolism; expressed as calories per square meter of body surface or per kilogram of body weight per hour. Abbreviated BMR.

Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the pace at which your body burns calories when it's at rest.
