Retroactive Inhibition
one of the causes for a loss of retention during which the learning of new material interferes with the recall of earlier learning. The first experimental research on retroactive inhibition was conducted by the German psychologists G. Müller and A. Pilzecker in 1900. The study of retroactive inhibition became very popular after the studies of the American psychologist J. E. De Camp appeared in 1915. The nature of retroactive inhibition is still not clear. Tests for retroactive inhibition are used as diagnostic techniques in the treatment of local brain injuries and in psychiatry. REFERENCEEksperimental’naia psikhologiia, fase. 4.
