Rhandeia, Peace of

a treaty between Rome on one side and Parthia and Armenia on the other.

The Peace of Rhandeia was concluded in A.D. 62 after the Roman forces were defeated in the same year at Rhandeia, near the city of Kharberd (Kharput), on the banks of the Araxes River, in the present-day vilayet of Tunceli, Turkey. The treaty was signed for the Romans by the consul D. Corbulo and for the Parthian-Armenian side by Tiridates, brother of the Parthian king Vologases. According to the treaty, the Roman and Parthian troops were to leave Armenia, the Roman fortifications on the Euphrates River were to be destroyed, Tiridates was to be recognized as king of Armenia, and the frontiers of the Armenian state were to be fully restored.
