Rhine-Herne Canal
a navigable canal in the Federal Republic of Germany. Located in the Ruhr, it connects the Rhine River at Duisburg with the Dortmund-Ems canal at Heme. The Rhine-Herne canal was built between 1907 and 1914. It is 38 km long (according to some data, 45.6 km) and 3.5 m deep, and it has locks. It is open to ships with freight-carrying capacities of up to 1,350 tons. The main cargoes are coal, iron ore, and petroleum. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
