Riabaia Mogila
a barrow on the western bank of the Prut river, near the Călmătui River. It is near the area where on June 17 (28), 1770, during the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–74, the Russian army (38,000-39,000 men, 115 artillery pieces) under the command of General P. A. Rumiantsev defeated the Turkish-Tatar forces (approximately 70,000 men) of the Crimean khan Kaplan-Girei. The Russian forces, advancing on the center and flanks, threatened to encircle the enemy, who then fled. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
