ribbon cableA thin, flat, multiconductor cable that is widely used for internal peripheral connections in electronic systems. In a PC, a 34-wire ribbon connects the floppy drive (if present) to the motherboard. A 40-wire cable connects the IDE (ATA) CD drive, and an 80-wire cable is used for the IDE (ATA) hard disks.

The SeaI/O-463 uses four internal 50-pin headers that connect to relay racks via standard ribbon cables. A new line of machines for pulse heat bonding and soldering, primarily of flex circuits, have a variety of applications, including: FLEX to printed circuit board (PCB); heat seal connectors to LCD and PCB; tape automated bonding (TAB) to PCB; edge connectors to PCB; and ribbon cables to PCB. These are the common ribbon cables used in a PC to connect floppy, CD and hard disk. |
