On the northern border of UT, northeast of Ogden; original county. Created as Richland in 1863; organized and name changed Jan 16, 1864 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For Charles Coulson Rich, a Mormon apostle.

Area (sq mi): 1086.29 (land 1028.53; water 57.76). Pop per sq mi: 2.00.
Pop 2005: 2,051. State rank: 27. Pop change: 2000-20005 4.60%; 1990-2000 13.70%. Pop 2000: 1,961 (White 97.30%; Black or African American 0.00%; Hispanic or Latino 1.80%; Asian 0.40%; Other 1.50%). Foreign born: 1.90%. Median age: 34.30.
Income 2000: per capita $16,267; median household $39,766; Pop below poverty level: 10.20%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $20,810-$23,235.
