Shigatse 

(also Jihk’atse), a city in China, in the Tibetan Autonomous Region. Situated in the valley of the Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River, at an elevation of more than 3,800 m. Population, approximately 20,000. Shigatse, a highway junction, is the center of a fanning region. The city’s cottage industries produce pottery and textiles.

The highway provides direct access to the city of Rikaze (population 100,000), approximately 53 kilometres to the east, where fuel, food, lodging and office facilities are available.
In its early stages in 2005, local villagers were employed as samplers, trail builders and in other activities at site and residents of Rikaze worked in the core logging facilities located there.
