Riker, William H. (Harrison) (1920–93) political scientist; born in Des Moines, Iowa. He taught at Lawrence College (1948–62) before joining the University of Rochester (1962). He is best known for three works: The Theory of Political Coalitions (1962), Liberalism Against Populism (1982), and The Art of Political Manipulation (1986).
