ringtoneThe audible sound made by a telephone to announce that a call is coming in. The traditional ringtone was in the 440-480 Hz range, but as cellphone usage grew, it became obvious that ringtone differentiation would become important. Modern cellphones support a wide frequency range that allows for several bars of music to be played. Phones come with a selection of built-in ringtones and accept new ones from one or more ringtone services that are downloaded for a fee. Napster said that its mobile over-the-air song and ring tone service is now available on NTI' DoCoMo's iMode mobile Internet service. The ring tone jammed their original hit ``Walked Away,'' a tune that speaks to relationships gone bad. The new system uses the OiNET791 message card, a PHS card developed by Oki Electric and Oki's proprietary IP telephony systems IPstage EX and DISCOVERY series and notifies patients with a ring tone, text message and vibrating alert when their turn comes. |
