Riotinto

    0.01 sec.
Ríotinto

(also Minas de Ríotinto), a city in southern Spain, in Andalusia, in Huelva Province, on the Tinto River. The city is the center of a large deposit of copper-bearing pyrites, constituting approximately 45 percent of all Spain’s reserves. The mining is carried out by Española de Minas de Ríotinto, a company founded in 1873 with British capital. The pyrites are used to produce sulfuric acid and mineral fertilizers. Part of the yield is shipped abroad via Huelva, a port on the Gulf of Cádiz.
