plenum cable
Cable that is suitable for running in air ducts and spaces between the floor and ceiling. It uses a fire retardant coating that must comply with local building codes. See plenum.
plenum cable
A jacket having low flame- and smoke-producing properties; specifically de-signed for use in the plenum, 1 formed by the space between a suspended ceiling and the structural floor above; such space often is used for return air in a heating and/or cooling system in a building.

(hardware)plenum cable - Cable that can be (legally) installed in the plenum (the space between a ceiling and the floor above it). Such cable is (usually) teflon-coated so that it will not give off toxic fumes when burned. In some parts of the world such cable is required by law.

:: Fire Safety Most standard require that all riser cable (cable that goes vertically between floors) be riser rated for its fire and smoking rating.
In addition to excellent ignition resistance, low smoke generation, and high abrasion resistance, these compounds boast mechanical properties that outperform traditional compounds for flame-retardant jacketing and insulation, riser cable, industrial cable, communication cable, and FTTX applications (see table).
If more than seven subscribers have DSL service within the same riser cable bundle, interference from cross-talk will degrade or stop the service.
