Riss Glaciation

Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Riss Glaciation

(from the German Riss, one of the tributaries of the Danube), the most extensive glaciation of the Alps during the Anthropogenic (Quaternary) period. The Riss glaciation is subdivided into two stages of glacial advance—Riss I and Riss II. These stages were separated by an interval of significantly warmer temperatures. Riss I is usually correlated with the Dnieper glaciation and Riss II with the Moscow glaciation on the East European Plain.
