river terrace [′rivĀ·ər ‚terĀ·əs]
(geology) River Terrace one of a series of terraces rising above the floodplain of a river and separated from other terraces by scarps. River terraces are formed during the entrenchment of a river in the flat floor of a valley as a consequence of tectonic uplifts, climatically caused changes in run-off regimes, or the depression of the base level of erosion.
