(electronics)
Rectangular depression extending below the sweep line of the radar indicator in some types of equipment.
(engineering)
A V-shaped indentation or cut in a surface or edge.
(geology)
A deep, narrow cut near the high-water mark at the base of a sea cliff.
(geography)
A narrow passage between mountains or through a ridge, hill, or mountain.

notch
A cutout in a log or timber, usually at or near one of its ends, that is used to form a rigid joint when mated with another appropriately cutout log or timber at right angles to it; for example, at the corners of a log cabin or log house. See corner notch, diamond notch, double-saddle notch, dovetail notch, half-cut notch, half-dovetail notch, halved-and-lapped notch, lap notch, log notch, round notch, saddle notch, single notch, single-saddle notch, square notch, V-notch.
