troops for the restoration, construction, and repair of highways and bridges in the operational rear and for organizing and performing area road traffic control service. The Armed Forces of the USSR and of several other socialist countries have road troops.

Road troops consist of road-construction, bridge-construction, and area road traffic control troops. They are provided with technical equipment for the restoration of damaged sections of highways and bridges and with special equipment and devices for traffic control. Road troops were set up and considerably developed in the Great Patriotic War (1941-45).
