The Armed Forces of the USSR and of several other socialist countries have road troops. Road troops consist of road-construction, bridge-construction, and area road traffic control troops. They are provided with technical equipment for the restoration of damaged sections of highways and bridges and with special equipment and devices for traffic control. Road troops were set up and considerably developed in the Great Patriotic War (1941-45). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
