Sterling Clark Robertson (1785-1842), officer in the Battle of New Orleans (1815), signer of the TX Declaration of Independence (1836), and Republic of TX legislator (1836; 1840)

On the central northern border of TN, north of Nashville; organized Apr 9, 1796 by the division between Montgomery and Robertson counties of Tennessee County, which had been organized in 1788 from Davidson County and was then abolished. Name Origin: For Gen. James Robertson (1742-1814), office in the Revolutionary War; called "Father of Tennessee" for his active support of statehood, and founder of present-day Nashville (1780)
