Robespierre, Augustin-Bon-Joseph De

    0.03 sec.
Robespierre, Augustin-Bon-Joseph De

Born Jan. 21, 1763, in Arras; died July 28, 1794, in Paris. Jacobin political figure of the French Revolution. Brother and associate of M. de Robespierre.

At the beginning of the revolution, Augustin de Robespierre presided over the Society of Friends of the Constitution and was the communal attorney of the Arras commune. In 1792 he was elected a deputy to the Convention, where he voted for the execution of Louis XVI. Robespierre played an important role in the expulsion of the Girondins from the Convention (May 31-June 2, 1793). He was sent by the Convention as an envoy to the army on several occasions. During the Thermidorian Reaction, Robespierre requested to share the fate of his brother and went to the guillotine without a trial.
