Robinson, Gerold

Robinson, Gerold (Tanquary) (1892–1971) Slavic studies specialist; born in Chase City, Va. A member of the editorial boards of the Dial (1919) and the Freeman (1920–24), he was best known for his research on agrarian Russia while teaching at Columbia University (1924–71). During World War II he was chief of the U.S.S.R. Division, the Research and Analysis Branch of the Office of Strategic Services (1941–45), and was awarded the Medal of Freedom (1947). He was author of Rural Russia Under the Old Regime (1932), and numerous other books and articles.
