    0.01 sec.
Rodevich, Viacheslav Mikhailovich

Born Feb. 18, 1878, in St. Petersburg; died Mar. 24, 1942, in Leningrad. Soviet hydrologist and hydraulic engineer. Doctor of technical sciences (1937). Professor at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1930–38).

Rodevich graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Railroad Engineers in 1901. He worked at the Administration of Internal Waterways of the Ministry of Railroads, and in 1911 became director of the ministry’s division of water research in Russia. Between 1901 and 1918, Rodevich directed studies of the rivers of the Sungari, Enisei, and Lena basins, the rivers of the Caucasus and Karelia, and the Dnieper-Baltic, Kama-Pechora, Lacha-Kubena, and Ob’-Enisei water junctions. From 1921 to 1927 he headed the comprehensive surveying of the construction of the Volkhov and Svir’ hydroelectric power plants. This work led to the development of the principles of a new method of investigation in hydraulic-engineering construction.

In 1929, Rodevich became head of the river division of the State Hydrologie Institute, where he directed the compilation of the Water Survey of the USSR and developed methods for classifying and quantitatively and qualitatively describing the rivers of the USSR.
