Roelas or Ruelas, Juan de las (hwän dā läs rōā`läs, rā`läs), c.1558–1625, Spanish painter of the school of Seville. He is sometimes called the Spanish Tintoretto Tintoretto , 1518–94, Venetian painter, whose real name was Jacopo Robusti. Tintoretto is considered one of the greatest painters in the Venetian tradition. He was called Il Tintoretto [little dyer] from his father's trade.

; there are stylistic analogies between the two. In Seville he was first to combine realism and mysticism, an approach prevalent in 17th-century Spain. His most famous works include Martyrdom of St. Andrew, St. Anne and the Virgin, Pentecost, and Circumcision (in the museums and churches of Seville).
