Roemer, Michael (1928– ) movie director; born in Berlin, Germany. After spending the war years in Britain, he arrived in the U.S.A. in 1945; he directed his first short subject, A Touch of the Times (1947–49), while he was still in college. He worked on a number of educational shorts and documentaries with Louis De Rochemont before making his first fiction feature, Nothing but a Man (1964), highly acclaimed for its sensitive depiction of African-American life.
