Rogers, Mary Josephine (1882–1955) Catholic religious foundress; born in New York City. A graduate of Smith College (1905), she volunteered to help the new Maryknoll missionary society (1912) and helped found the Maryknoll Sisters (1920), of which she was mother general until 1947, under the name Mother Mary Joseph.
