Rogov, Ivan Vasil’evich 

Born Aug. 10 (22), 1899, in Kazan; died Dec. 5, 1949, in Moscow. Soviet military leader; colonel general of the coastal service (1944). Member of the CPSU from 1918. Son of a handicraftsman.

Rogov joined the Red Army in 1919 and fought in the Civil War of 1918–20. In 1937 he was military commissar of a rifle division, from April 1938 military commissar on the General Staff of the Red Army, and from September 1938 until March 1939 a member of the Military Council of the Byelorussian Special Military District. In March 1939, Rogov was made chief of the Main Political Directorate of the Navy and deputy people’s commissar of the navy. During the Great Patriotic War he was a member of the Military Council of the Black Sea Fleet from December 1943 to February 1944. From 1946 to 1949 he was a member of the Military Council of the Baltic Military District.

From 1939 until 1949, Rogov was a member of the Central Committee of the ACP(B). He was awarded the Order of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Nakhimov First Class, the Order of Ushakov First Class, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
