Rogovtseva, Ada Nikolaevna 

Born July 16, 1937, in Glukhov, Sumy Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Soviet actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1978). Member of the CPSU since 1967.

After graduating from the I. K. Karpenko-Karyi Kiev Institute of Theatrical Arts in 1959, Rogovtseva joined the Lesia Ukrainka Kiev Academic Russian Dramatic Theater. Her roles have included Maia in Korneichuk’s Platon Krechet, Zhenia in an adaptation of Granin’s I Am Going Into a Storm, Gelena in Zorin’s Warsaw Melody, Valia in Simonov’s The Russian People, Sonia and Natasha in Gorky’s The Summer People and The Lower Depths, respectively, Sasha in Chekhov’s Ivanov, and Desdemona in Shakespeare’s Othello. She has appeared in such motion pictures as The Eternal Call, Cheers, Maria!, and Subduing the Fire.

Rogovtseva has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, and she received the Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in 1981.
