Rohlfs, Charles (1853–1936) furniture maker; born in New York City. After working as a stove designer and an actor, he established a Buffalo workshop to produce oak furniture, first in the simpler arts and crafts, then in the more ornate art nouveau styles. International exhibits brought fame and commissions to design interiors, to make furniture for the Adirondacks camps of the wealthy, and even to make a set of chairs for Buckingham Palace.
