Roizenman, Boris

Roizenman, Boris Anisimovich 

(real name Isaak Anshelevich). Born 1878; died 1938. Soviet party figure. Member of the Communist Party from 1902.

A worker’s son and a worker himself, Roizenman joined the revolutionary movement in 1899. He participated in the Revolution of 1905–07 in the Ukraine and engaged in party work in Cherkassy, Ekaterinoslav (now Dnepropetrovsk), and other cities. He was repeatedly arrested and exiled. Drafted into the army in 1916, Roizenman conducted revolutionary agitation among the soldiers. After the February Revolution of 1917, he was a member of the Ekaterinoslav soviet and of the provincial committee of the RSDLP(B). He was a delegate to the Sixth Congress and the congress of military organizations of the RSDLP(B). He participated in the struggle to establish Soviet power in Ekaterinoslav in December 1917 (January 1918). In the period 1918–19 he was commissioner of the Council of People’s Commissars for supplying the Eighth and Ninth Armies of the Southern Front and commissioner of the Council of Labor and Defense in the Urals.

From 1921 to 1923, Roizenman held high posts in economic affairs; beginning in 1923 he served in agencies of party and Soviet control. A delegate to the Twelfth through Seventeenth Party Congresses, Roizenman was a candidate member of the Central Control Commission from 1923. From 1924 to 1934 he was a member of the presidium of the Central Control Commission and of the collegium of the People’s Commissariat of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection of the USSR. In 1934 he became deputy chairman of the Soviet Control Committee. Roizenman was awarded the Order of Lenin.
