a river in Sumatra, in Indonesia. It is approximately 300 km long and drains an area of approximately 19,000 sq km. It flows primarily across a swampy plain covered with equatorial forests. The Rokan empties into the Strait of Malacca, forming an estuary approximately 30 km long. The river has a mean flow rate of approximately 1,100 cu m per sec. It is full throughout the year. The Rokan is navigable. The port of Ba-gansiapi-api is located in the estuary.
