Roman mythology |
Also found in: Wikipedia | 0.03 sec. |
Roman mythologyOral and literary traditions of the ancient Romans concerning their gods and heroes and the nature and history of the cosmos. Much of what became Roman mythology was borrowed from Greek mythology at a later date, as Greek gods were associated with their Roman counterparts. As in Greek mythology, legendary Roman heroes (such as Romulus and Remus and Aeneas) were given semidivine status. See also Roman religion. How to thank TFD for its existence? Although they are no more graphic or gruesome than uncensored Greek and Roman myths, these uncensored Afro-Cuban fables (just like original Greek, Roman, and many other myths) are emphatically for mature readers only. This brief, accessible, and dramatic retelling of the Roman myth will be appreciated in Latin and English classes as well as for recreational reading. These breezy retellings of Greek and Roman myths, each voiced by one of its protagonists, are brief: Pandora's apologia runs a mere four pages; Pan's tale of his pursuit of the nymph Syrinx just three (she escapes by becoming a reed, only to be fashioned into Pan's flute). |
