Romberg's sign [′räm‚bərgz ‚sīn]
(medicine)
A sign for obturator hernia in which there is pain radiating to the knee.
A sign for loss of position sense in which the patient cannot maintain equilibrium when standing with feet together and eyes closed.

Findings on the standard Romberg's test were normal, but the patient experienced a marked amount of difficulty performing the sharpened tandem Romberg's test with the left foot forward and somewhat less difficulty with the right foot forward.
Interestingly, even Osier gave an excellent clinical description of the clinical features of tabes and Romberg's test in the first edition of his textbook, The Principles and Practice of Medicine (6).
A Romberg's test was negative, but an increased postural sway was observed.
