Root, Waverley (Lewis) (1903–82) journalist, author; born in Providence, R.I. He was a longtime Paris correspondent for newspapers from the Chicago Tribune (1927–57) to the Washington Post (1957–69). With The Food of France (1958), he launched a second, perhaps more memorable career as a food writer; his works include the international dictionary Food (1980). How to thank TFD for its existence?
