a bacterial root cancer of fruit-bearing plants (such as apple, pear, apricot, and mulberry trees, grapes, and raspberry and strawberry plants). The disease causes dense ligneous knots “of varying sizes and shapes to form on the roots (primarily on the collum). The causal organism, Bacterium tumefaciens, is transmitted through the soil.
