Ropet, Ivan Pavlovich
(real name, Ivan Nikolaevich Petrov). Born in 1845; died Dec. 12 (25), 1908, in St. Petersburg. Russian architect. Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1893). Ropet studied with A. M. Gornostaev at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts from 1861 to 1871. He was the founder of one of the trends of the pseudo-Russian style, which was noted in the 1870’s for its democratic character. Ropet’s buildings and designs, which included sketches for interior decoration and objects of applied art, greatly influenced the work of his contemporaries. REFERENCE[B. M.] “Pamiati I. P.
