Rose, Mary Davies Swartz (1874–1941) nutritionist; born in Newark, Ohio. A Yale Ph.D. in physiological chemistry, she established a department of nutrition and developed nutrition education programs for public schools while teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University (1909–40). Her many publications include the standard Foundations of Nutrition (1927).
