On the northern border of MN, northeast of Grand Forks, ND; established Dec 31, 1894 from Kittson County. Name Origin: For Roseau lake and river, both in the northern part of the county; from French 'reed,' from a translation of an Ojibway word that refers to the coarse grass (Phragmites communis) growing along the banks.
